Nrupen Madhvani

After more than two decades in this field, I’m still learning and evolving. The passion that I had felt for creating images when I began is still alive and clicking! However, stagnation would creep in if the canvas was restrictive. To prevent visual rigor mortis, I try and cover as many different genres as possible. I also try and eliminate those elements that constitute ‘visual clutter’ and I think this simple philosophy comes through in my work.
One of my earliest dreams was to work in Japan and I will always be grateful to my sensei, Mr. Hiroyuki Yamamoto, for providing the opening for me to assist him in Tokyo.
I’ve been able to add to this experience through my association with many talented creative minds in various magazines and ad agencies. My work with them has received recognition in the form of awards from the Advertising Club, the Commercial Artists Guild, the International Pegasus Awards, Luerzer’s, etc.
You can see my portfolio in various Indian and foreign publications and websites, namely, Elle Décor, Saatchi Online, The Fuschia Tree website, Abitare(Italy), Luerzer’s International Archive, The Taj magazine, Lalit Kala Akademi, the India Today Group, Superbrands, etc.
One of the interesting aspects of being visually savvy is that I can connect with both photography and filmmaking. I work in tandem with both disciplines because there is a comfortable familiarity with the language.
My other interests include teaching and writing. As visiting faculty, I get the opportunity to share what I’ve learnt. I enjoy the intellectual interaction with my students and the added bonus is that I get to vicariously revisit my college days!
